IdeaFest 2012 is a university wide initiative designed to celebrate research, scholarship and creativity throughout the University of Victoria. In celebration of IdeaFest, the School of Nursing is hosting Dr. Carole Estabrooks as guest speaker as part of our Research Conversation series.

UVic Human and Social Development (HSD) Building, Room A451

This event is free and open to all members of the UVic Community (students included). Seating is limited.

Dr. Estabrooks is Professor, Faculty of Nursing, at the University of Alberta and a Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation. She has been a fellow in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences since 2007 and is recently elected to the American Academy of Nursing. She leads the Knowledge Utilization Studies Program (KUSP) at the University of Alberta.


Dr. Estabrooks' applied health services research program focuses on knowledge translation in the health sciences. She studies the influence of organizations on the research implementation behaviour of health care providers and the effects of that research implementation (knowledge translation) on quality of care, quality of life/quality of end of life and quality of work life outcomes. In her presentation, Carole will focus on her applied program of knowledge translation research in residential long term care, both doing and integrating KT Science. Carole will also share her own experiences, insights and examples of issues and challenges in developing programs of research and knowledge translation.



      

The Art and Science of Nursing: an exhibit

Nursing inquiry comes in many forms. In recognition of IdeaFest 2012, a University-wide celebration of innovative research and creative production, the School of Nursing is exhibiting artefacts of nursing art and science.



Join us March 5, 6, 8 and 9 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm in the Human and Social Development (HSD) Building, Room A451 to view a diverse collection of scholarly and creative artefacts related to health and well-being. The exhibit, produced by School of Nursing faculty, staff, students and alumni, is made up of an array of works, including books, photographs, posters, videos, journal articles, poetry and paintings.

Be sure to pick up the new IdeaFest/Research themed edition of the Winter 2012 Communiqué at the exhibit !

Communiqué is a quarterly research and scholarship publication of the University of Victoria School of Nursing. Communiqué is the source for information regarding research and scholarly activities in nursing at UVic.

Submit to the Communiqué! Tell us your ideas, recent publication citations, awards, or research/scholarship news by contacting Robbyn Lanning at robbyn@uvic.ca.

Contributions to the Communiqué (including articles, publications and announcements) need to be submitted in completed form. Article word counts should be 150 – 300 words, publications/presentation citations should be submitted in APA format, and announcements should be 1 – 4 sentences long. The nursing scholar research and writing blog

 

The nursing scholar is the University of Victoria School of Nursing research and writing blog for graduate students and all those interested in nursing research and writing. 

Bloggers Robbyn Lanning (research) and Madeline Walker (writing) provide information and discussion about writing and research in the diverse field of nursing.  Readers can drop in occasionally, respond to blog posts, or subscribe to the blog.
